Eric A. Hernandez, Trial Attorney
Eric A. Hernandez, Trial Attorney
When you are hurt because someone else was careless, you need more than a lawyer who knows the law. You need someone who knows how to fight — and how to win when the other side pushes back.
Eric A. Hernandez built HLM Injury Lawyers on that principle. After more than 25 years of litigation experience in federal courtrooms, state courts, and appellate tribunals, Eric now focuses his practice entirely on personal injury — representing injured people and their families throughout Coral Springs, Broward County, and South Florida.
He is not a typical plaintiff’s attorney. His background sets him apart in ways that matter when your case goes up against a trucking company, an insurance carrier, a hospital system, or a corporation with a team of defense lawyers.
A Prosecutor’s Instincts, Now Fighting for You
Before founding HLM Injury Lawyers, Eric served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Department of Justice in the Southern District of Florida — one of the largest and most active federal prosecutorial districts in the country. As a federal prosecutor, he handled complex grand jury investigations and took cases to trial across a wide range of serious matters.
That experience taught Eric how large institutions build their defenses, how investigators preserve evidence, how opposing counsel prepares for trial — and how to dismantle it all when the facts are on your side.
Insurance companies, self-insured trucking fleets, nursing home chains, and product manufacturers all have legal teams whose job is to minimize what they pay you. Eric knows how those teams think and prepare. He spent years on the other side of high-stakes litigation. Now he uses that knowledge to hold wrongdoers accountable.
Before the Federal Government — A Foundation in Public Service
Prior to his work as a federal prosecutor, Eric served as an Assistant Miami-Dade County Attorney, where he was trial counsel on hundreds of civil and constitutional matters — tort and wrongful death cases, civil rights litigation, employment disputes, and complex commercial cases. He briefed and argued appeals before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Florida Third District Court of Appeal, and submitted briefs to the Florida Supreme Court.
One of those cases — a high-profile challenge to a multi-billion dollar redevelopment project involving a Major League Baseball stadium, tunnels to the Port of Miami, and the Miami Art Museum — went to trial under intense media scrutiny. Eric tried and won. The Florida Daily Business Review named him a Finalist for the Most Effective Lawyer Award in Commercial Litigation that year.
How His Career Began — Clerking at the Highest Level
Eric began his legal career clerking for Chief Justice Charles T. Wells of the Florida Supreme Court and for U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick A. White in the Southern District of Florida. During those clerkships he worked on some of the most consequential legal matters in recent Florida history — including the Bush v. Gore presidential election litigation, state redistricting cases, and death penalty appeals.
That foundation — seeing the law applied at its highest levels from the very start of his career — shaped the way Eric approaches every case he handles today.

Why Personal Injury — And Why Now
Eric chose to focus HLM Injury Lawyers exclusively on personal injury because he believes injured people deserve the same level of preparation and tenacity that major institutions bring to their defense. Too often, injured clients face insurance adjusters, defense attorneys, and corporate defendants who are better resourced and more experienced at denying claims than the average plaintiff’s attorney is at fighting them.
Whether your case involves a car accident on I-95, a slip and fall at a commercial property, a catastrophic injury caused by a defective product, or the loss of a family member through someone’s negligence — you will work directly with Eric. He personally handles every case. You will not be shuffled to a paralegal or a junior associate for the most important decisions in your matter.
Serving South Florida — In English and Spanish
HLM Injury Lawyers serves clients throughout Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Margate, Tamarac, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Sunrise, and all of Broward County. Eric is fully bilingual — English and Spanish — and serves the South Florida Hispanic community with the same level of representation provided to all clients.
